Freighter Service Threat

The Lib Dems have reacted with anger to the threat to the freighter service.

The ruling Conservative administration at Maidstone Borough Council is actively planning to axe this popular facility.

Local campaigner Ken Stevens said, "This would be another big blow for local residents. It follows on from closing public toilets, charging for Sunday parking and charging many to park in their own street".

Lib Dem campaigner Dave Naghi said, "This is madness. Local people are becoming fed up with a never-ending stream of cuts to vital services.

"The Conservative Council leadership should focus on providing high quality basic services. Instead, they seem intent on pursuing grandiose plans like spending a breathtaking £4Million on putting down new paving slabs in the High Street".
