Victory in campaign for "bird block" residents

5.17.00pm GMT Mon 15th Feb 2010

72 households in the 'Bird Blocks' near the Park Wood parade will be receiving new windows following a campaign on their behalf by local Lib Dem Councillor Daniel Moriarty. The windows in many of the flats were no longer in an acceptable condition, with warped frames causing a constant draft in residents' homes.

Cllr Moriarty said, "Some residents are having to pay more than they can afford to keep their properties warm, and having to put up with damp, condensation and mould as a result of these windows not being up to scratch. It is clear that the Housing Trust should replace them as it is their duty to maintain the exterior of residents' homes."

Councillor Moriarty demanded that the Housing Trust do a survey of the windows in the block and his pressure lead to the trust agreeing that the work, which is currently out to tender, needs to be done.

Daniel said "This is no more than the residents of these blocks have a right to expect from their landlord. I am pleased that the work will go ahead and put an end to families having to pay over the odds for their heating bills."
